Rear window seal butyl tape

Going to end up swapping back to a slider soon, going for function over form. Curious for those that have done it, what butyl tape you used? When I swapped to a solid, I stopped at safelite to ask about some and they just gave me some (fo free!) but I don't know what size it was, and in places it was pretty tough to get the window flush with the cab (though it doesn't leak, still kinda bothers me)

Anyway.... looking at something like these

what size would be a good choice?

also, what do you use to clean off the window edge? I used windex and it wasnt easy, but it doesn't leak

How much would it be for them to install it? I saw the price of that is like $250-$450 since you have to buy it by the case. Might be cheaper to get them to just put it in.

Anyway I would guess it would be 1/4" or 5/16".

well i was gonna buy it elsewhere in single packs. just figured manufacturer website would give better product detail. there's packs of 3 on ebay for $25 shipped.

I put mine in with 1/4 the first time. but it didn't seal right, the ribbon rolled out when i slid the window in, so i just went with the next size up. so, 5/16"
as for cleanup, Try some Goo Gone, or paint thinner. i always used that at the dealership.

If that ribbon rolled out while putting it in you must have don't something wrong. I had no problems with mine and no leaks since I've done it (over a year).

i am tackling this project pretty soon. i talked to my local parts guy that did automotive work before getting into parts. he told me that he recommends putting a bead of culk beside the butyl strip because the butyl strip doesn't last and will probably still leak. i don't really agree with this and was looking for some people that have done this and how it is holding up. i live in southern pa and have temp ranges from 100+ in the summer to - degrees in the winter if this makes a difference. thanks in advance!
