Heater Diagnosis:Left In The Cold

Ok guys, as you all know, I have been posting alot.

I have one more week before I start my new job, which means, I have one more week of freedom left for the next several years.

I am getting ready to commit to a position in which I will be working 40-72 hours weekly, and will not have time to work on anything.

This week I am trying to get everything up and to its best before I start.

I am going to paint this week(thank the Lord that the humidity has dropped), and try to get everything up to shape.

So here Is My Problem:

I have a 98 Ranger, with the 2.5, manual.

It is factory equipped with Air.

When I first got the truck, i had to replace a faulty thermostat that was sticking open.

After going through the junk @ a certain chain aftermarket parts house, and replacing the thermostat 2 times in one day, I finally went through Ford, and ordered an OE thermostat.

This fixed the problem I had of underheating.

After I replaced the thermostat with the Motorcraft, I decided to check out the heat, to see if it worked....and guess what....no heat!

So right away I assumed it was the Heater control valve located on the heater hoses, and replaced it. I had tested it, and it was faulty.

Still no heat.

On the heater hoses, up to the valve get steaming hot. But the closer you get to the firewall, the colder they get.

I decided to test the flow of the heater core, by pressure feeding water through both side of the hoses leading to the firewall...and guess what?
NO FLOW. PERIOD. No amount of pressure would cause flow through either side of the hoses.

There are no leaks anywhere in the coolant system, or in the interior of the truck.

I have made assumptions that it is either the heater core, or possibly the blend door?

Could I get any reccomendations on what I should test/replace?

Please help.

Also, If I do have to replace heater core, will I have to recharge the A/C system?

Thanks guys.

P.s.

Ill have pics up as soon as I get my tonneau/truck painted, new mirrors and emblems on.

If the hot water valve was not inline when you tried back flushing the core and your sure there was no flow then yes, you'll need to replace it. No you wont need to recharge the A/C system. However, its a PTA with A/C. Here's the basics on 01 W/3.0 but should be similar on 4 cyl heater-core-replacement-01-edge

I'd recommend thoroughly flushing the system before replacing the heater core.
