replacing the horn
 

I went to replace my horns today, but I couldn't get to them. I was trying to take the grille off, but I couldn't get it all the way off. Any hints?

first, remove you're headlights. You'll see two of the clips that hold the grille and grille shell(2 under each headlight.) Assuming you've removed all the bolts along the top, use a long flat tip screwdriver to pop these 4 clips out. There are 4 more behind the grille, you need to use some savvy to reach behind the grille with the long screwdriver and pop them loose as well. I've found its easiest to attack them from the top and push down with the screwdriver while pulling gently out on the grille shell with your free hand.

Be VERY careful not to scratch your bumper with the metal clips when remocving or re-installing the grille shell.. (ESP. if you've done the John Griggs bumper mod!) I have two nice lines of touch-up paint on my bumper thanks to my carelessness.

So i got the grille off, and the horns are still blocked by the bumper. Do you really have to remove the bumper to replace the horns? Maybe it's because I have big hands and I can't squeeze them into small places. Has anyone else replaced horns?

Its only 4 bolts to take the bumper off.. although it helps to have a buddy to hold it when you put it back on.

Oh, and if you ever go off-roading, wear some safety goggles or you'll end up with dirt in your eyes.

That still seems like a hassle to replace a horn. Maybe this weekend I'll try it.

dude.. dont go tearing anything appart.. unless they moved the horn after 99', take the driver side inner fender out, or even just pull it back, the horns right there. Its only a few small screws to get the inner fender off (plastic black thing).. I'll take a photo of where its at this afternoon...

if its the same as a 2001 Edge (Twin horn assembly) located on the right side (pass side). Once you have the grille/shell off you will need to remove the wiring connector and the single bolt that goes in from the back side of the header. Once that bolt is removed you can pull the horn up and out through the grille opening.

Oh if you have that black plastic insert around the opening of the Rad. you'll need to remove it also.

In that case, disregard what I said. My 99 only has one horn and its SUPER easy to get to...

not to thread jack or anything, but whats the best way to clean out the horn? Ever since my last off-roading trip(where i got a bit muddy) the horn sounds really p*ssy. Is it ok for me to take my power sprayer and try and shoot it up there? or would that damage the horn?
