Icon4 HELP!! 3.0 Running BADDDDD

I have a 2005 Ranger 3.0 automatic .While driving the truck it started to shake and miss and the check engine light came on,so I limped it home, and bought a code scanner(Actron OBD 2 Pocket Scan) and I have the following codes:
Set: P0300,Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
p0305, Cylinder 5 Misfire Detected
p0306, Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected
Pending codes: p0175, System too rich bank 2
p0301, misfire cyl. 1
p0302, misfire cyl. 2
p0303, misfire cyl. 3
p0304, misfire cyl 4
p0316, Misfire detected first 1000 RPM's
any clues to what may cause this? I pulled plug 5, it looks old(truck has 60,000 miles on it)I hooked up the plug wire and had my girlfriend start it up and it had a nice blue spark, looked o.k.

I just bought the truck a month ago, and don't have any maintenance records, and of course I did NOT buy the extended warranty(cause its a Ranger "it will run forever") I'm on a low budget so any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

thank You can E-mail @ blacksabre04@yahoo.com

Does it sound like its misfiring at idle? If so it might be your IAC.

Yes it misses at idle, and has a slight ticking sound, kinda like an older engine without computer controls when it is out of time or has bad wires

The one thing I did not say is that it happened all at once with no warning, was running verry well before that
Is there any way to test the Idle Air Control?

You may want to go ahead and clean the IAC to see if it helps any. It is located on the intake manifold and you simply unbolt it and clean it out with electrical part cleaner (available at any parts store or Wal-Mart). There is probably a how to on it in the how to section of the forums.

The spark plugs should not be causing this, since they are intended to last for 100,000 miles. That doesn't mean they will be working perfectly at 100,000 miles, but they definitely should not be giving you trouble now. Spark plugs will not usually cause such a sudden change either.

You could have a vaccum issue, something clogging the fuel lines, a bad coil pack, or a spark plug wire problem. I would check for any loose or damaged vaccum lines or spark plug wires.

I checked for vaccum leaks or loose wire but found nothing. (I didn't spray carb cleaner or anything around the motor I just did a visual inspection)
wouldn't a bad IAC only cause a problem at idle and not at a higher rpm?It runs verry poor through the entire rpm range.
I don't think its wires because it was so sudden.

ok, well juging by the codes it looks as if either (or both) 5/6 started missfieing the raw fuel goin threw without bieng burnt is setting the ritch condition. i dont know how in depth that scanner can read but if its able to view live data check the missfire counts and see which cylindars are really misfireing (sometimes 1 or two bad cylindars can cause missfire codes in the rest of them) espetially with a waste spark system as you have. if your able to figure out which is missfireing "the most" at ilde then swap that spark plug and put in in a clyindar that isnt missfireing if the misfire follows its the plug if not do one of the plug wires then and injector and if none of that workes finally do a compresion check

good luck thats the best advice i can give you

Check TSBs. Theres a known problem with 04 3.0L Rangers sucking valves up into the heads. I've replaced both heads on my late-build 03 out of pocket.

Well I haven't repied on this post for a while, I said the hell with the Ranger and she been sittin' , Been riddin' my motorcycle, but it's starting to get cold so I thought I better fix it.
Wowak you nailed it!!
I found a Ford Certified Mech. who does side jobs and took it to him, He called me tonight and told me that is'nt good, it SUCKED an exhaust valve and this is a common problem he's seen before.,and I need to put on the new upgraded cyl. heads and It's gonna be $1,400. bucks OUCH! So now I gues I'll call the dealer that I bought it from and see if they will work with me. I don't have the ca$h....might have to put a 5.0 in it!!!lol
How much did you pay for the heads?

Well I got the dealer to go 50/50 with me on replacement heads...$750 a whole lot better than $1400. If anyone else has a Head problem check with the dealer they were easy to work with and will recognize the problem as a factory defect.
