It doesn't seem like the fuel pump because that wouldn't affect your dome light, only a battery issue would affect that. When the truck wont start will the starter crank over? Can you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key forward?

If the dome light isn't coming on seems like something might be shorting out and that's why the truck is cutting out. When the dome light doesn't come on does any other electric things work, radio, headlight ect....?

I have the same truck and encountered the same problem. It turned out my pcm fuse was loose. Well it wasn't actually loose but in the fuse panel the connector got pushed backed into the panel and the fuse would not make contact all the time and it would shut the truck off. I'd wiggle the fuse and it would start back up. It was a pain until I figured out what was wrong. I just took the panel out and pushed the connector back into the panel.

Shorts = blown fuses and fires.

It sounds like a loose connection to me. Maybe the battery saver circuit is causing you trouble. If the 97 has one im not sure.
