LED for Interior Lights

LED for Interior Lights
Hey Buggman, are you here? I sent you a PM to ask about some replacement led's for my Ranger and wondering if you have seen them yet? Just checking.. Would like to change out the very low light lights in my dome/map light with some led's as well as my parking/brake/turn signals front and rear as well as license plate.

One thing to remember when switching to LED is LED are like laser pointers, super bright when looking at them, but don't illuminate the surrounding area. Make sure the bulbs you buy face in multipule directions, not just toward the lens/gauge face.I recently changed out the dash lights on my GFs ranger to blue LED and it looks great! I suggest using the SMD style LED for the gauges with 5 LEDs per bulb, it will give off a more uniform illumination. I picked up 10 of them for $12 off eBay.

LED have different angle of illumination.
Some very narrow, most common, to 130 degree spread which is almost half a circle and some have lens in front to do different things.
So ask around what is being used and check out how they throw out their light and then go for it.
Buggman has worked with them and know what his stuff is capable.

I also forgot to mention to be sure to use the color LED for its intended purpose. What I mean is if you are changing the light for an amber turn signal, use an amber led, not a white one. A white light behind an amber lens gives off a funky "frosted" look, whereas an amber led will look much cleaner, same goes for red brake lights. The main thing to remember is to make sure the bulbs have LEDs facing in multipule directions.

Well, I bought some of the led's from superbrightled.com and I must say they really brighten up the interior. The ones I bought were the cool white and I am hoping to buy some replacements for the license plate as well as the front and rear bulbs and from my reading it is important to change out the flasher so that things will continue working properly. I am a fan of the led lights for sure and hope to get them all changed over a period of time.
