A/C Fan Dead - Hot Weather Alive

87 Ranger A/C Fan went from 4 working speeds months ago to only working on fastest speed to not working at all. Recent chat talked about RESISTOR cleaning and replacing on newer models but I can not locate the resistor on my 87 model. What does it look like and where would it be located? The fan wires appear to run through the fire wall and possibly behind the passenger side kick panel where that computer looking gizmo is mounted but I'm not sure of that. Advise Thanks Mike

Check your fuses. It should work on high with a bad resistor.

The resistor gets hot and need to be cooled by the fan so its on heater box near it.

I am not familiar with the older dash but for reference a pic of my 99.

There is also a thermal fuse mounted on the resistor pack .
The fuse is not replaceable without changing the resistor pack . It's usually mounted below and to the right of the blower motor.

Thanks for posting the photo. It confirms what I already saw. I need a little more info before I continue. My resistor plug looks identical to the one in the photo. Press down the top retainer(probably one one bottom also), and pull the plug out and inspect for corrosion. I'm assuming that the resistor itself is what's held into the firewall by 2 small screws. It's all hidden inside the firewall? It's like 30 degrees here and cold plastic breaks easy...Anything I need to know about that? I broke one of the retainer clips to blower motor plug. It still is held in there snug. I am grateful for all this info. Very usefull to me.

I would pull the whole thing out before trying to separate them. A screwdriver is really needed to pry these apart. You may need a new wire pigtail too, as the can be corroded as well.
