Security / anti theft

Hi guys , is it hard to disable anti theft on a 2005 4.0? A friend of mine is selling his two rangers, one has the anti theft enabled on it after the battery going flat, my ranger is pushing over 600,000 kms on it now. So I’m thinking on buying his two. The one that doesn’t run is my preference as it’s 5 speed , 4.0 4x4.
im curious if it’s hard to disable it and just have the truck running or would it need a ecm flash or difficult to bypass the system.
thanks

2005 Rangers didn't have PATS(passive anti-theft system), Ford had a licensing issue with the Company so skipped that year
1999-2004 had PATS, 2006-2011 had PATS

It could have a Dealer installed Alarm system, or its a late 2004 or early 2006 model

In 2004 and up PATS is in the instrument cluster and is fairly reliable in 2004, 2006-2011
Low battery will always trigger PATS,
Bad Transceiver(ring around the key slot) is most common issue, easy to replace with no reprogramming needed

THEFT light on the dash will flash a 2 digit code number, 11-16, if you leave the key on after THEFT light starts to flash rapidly, takes 45-60 seconds then it will start to flash the codes
11 Transceiver [transponder coil] not connected, or there is no power to it.
12 Transceiver internal fault.
13 No Key/no PATS key has been used to turn the ignition switch<<<<low battery code
14 Incomplete key code received<<<<low battery code
15 Invalid key code received.
16 CAN communications error.<<<<low battery code or wiring issue

Clusters are Digital 2004 and up so can't be swapped easily, like 2003 and earlier analog clusters
Deleting PATS can be done by some programmers and maybe Forscan, using a laptop connected to the vehicle, not sure on the 2004 and up Rangers
Much easier to just get it working again if that's the issue

i just got the details one that is not running due to anti theft is a 2006, other one that runs is 2005.
so if I throw a good battery in it , does that mean that it’s likely it won’t run still? I’m going to have a look at them tomorrow. Would be nice if I can get it running cause it’s close to my cabin so I could drive it there. I see the codes you mentioned up top. I think that happened to my 2003 ranger before and the horn kept getting triggered. What would you suggest , just throw a good battery in it ?
thanks

PATS is a "passive" anti-theft, so no horn or exterior lights connected, that would be a separate Alarm system

Yes, if it is/was a battery(low voltage) issue then a charged up or new battery should allow key to pass the PATS test and you can start the engine
Or at least get a PATS code
Gas in the tank only lasts 5 to 6 months so..................... if its been sitting longer than that add some fresh gas and Octane Boost(HEET)

Just as a heads up for PATS, if you get the flashing THEFT light and try to start it that way 4 times then PATS will "lock down" the computer for 90min, even if you unhook battery you will have to wait the 90min
