Silverstar Reverse Lights?

I'd like to be able to see a little bit better where I back up, you think replacing the reverse lights with silverstars would make a noticeable difference? I dont want to add a light back there, so you think the silverstars would be worth it? When i say not worth it, i dont mean because of the money. I mean because the the extra visibility. What you all think?

If you put 50 watters in the stock wiring will not support them. 50 watters need 14 gauge wire. The 16 or 18 thats stock is not sufficient.

http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProd...placementGuide Look there....Any of there part numbers that end in 'ST' are the silverstar version....

For my 2003, they don't make a silverstar back-up light....And now that I look...they don't make one for the 2001's either....You sure you found something Evan???

That's what i thought. I didn't think FORD would use headlight bulbs in the taillights. I just thought you knew something I didn't.

Oh, well... I'm getting a custom rear bumper made that will have some reverse lights/rear offroading lights.

you could do one of a couple things for more light back there.....

1) hookup some type of auxillary fog light system to be triggered by a relay from your backup lights

2) plug a set of those 50w bulbs in, you will probably be fine, because the bulb is only on for less than a minute.

3) get a 3157 bulb (dual fillament) instead of a 3156 (single fillament) and get a wiring socket for a 3157, then hookup both minor, and major leads coming off the socket into the backup light wiring. again, you shouldnt have any problems because they arent on that long.

im in the same boat, cuz not only do i have 5% tinted windows, i have a spare tire mount that blocks about 85% of my rear view.....i tried the foglight senario and never turned them on, they wernt triggered by my backup lights

The 1st "mod" I did was put 50 watt halogen back up bulbs in. They are made by DesignTech, and they have worked great.

You could order some cheap 3156 LED's from ebay. That's what I did and they're atleast 2 times as bright as my old lights

Umm....not to be pissy but, originally we were talking about REVERSE lights (3156 for our Rangers)..not front signal lights or brake lights...I didn't see anyone say that they didn't make other Silverstar lamps...just that they don't make back-up lamps (3156's) ???

My link posted above is from Sylvania's website itself...if there not listed there...Sylvania doesn't make 'em....

Umm...not to be pissy back, but I didn't notice right off that the 3156 was a wedge style socket.

So tell me was this type of reply really necessary on your part? Simply pointing out that it was a wedge base would have been sufficient!

I am not going to get into it anymore...but it was clearly stated above that they didn't make em...but you chimed in with a 7 word reply that was condradicting the statements, so I was stating the correct information AGAIN.....

Thread is over.....we all know that there is NO silverstar lamp for a direct replacement back-up lamp.
