You should have one on the front and one on the transfer case as well. If you do mroe than mild offroading, it'd be a better investment to have one made. The stocker is more for keeping water and muck out of the fan/engine compartment. You can find em on ebay for around $50 usually. Search for "Ranger Skid"

Ford gets over US$200 for the factory front skid plate. That's a lot of money for what it is. If you want a used one, look for the black painted type that came on the Level II's. It is thicker and a little stronger than the stainless one that was on earlier trucks.

Bill brown dealership. always seems to be cheaper then anyone else..idk if he got it from there tho... the price could have gone up since a year ago tho. i hear the manual level II shifters did...

I dont go often offroading with it, had a bad experience with my old s-10. I just want something to kept the snow from backing in the front. Ill try to call Ford tomorrow i work in a mechanic shop so i have my parts nearly at cost, plus i need the pinion seal for my front diff. I only have 40 000 mile on it and one trail and it started to leak,

Thanks for the reply guys

Are these skid plates a direct bolt-on to an '01 XLT Off-Road vehicle or would I need to drill holes and get a mount?

RangerBoy03FX4 09-26-2006 06:06 PM

The sad part is, we're @ $0.89 to $1US. The exchange rate is awesome, about time we get back up there. There was a time when the Canadian dollar was stronger then the US dollar.....not that long ago either....I'm not that old.

Your local shop wanted $350 to get you a skid plate??
