so i need to replace the caliper on my ranger.
i also need to bleed the lines.
i have 4 wheel drive on my 2005 ranger
i'm reading my hayes manual and it sez i need a special bleeder tool to do this if i got air in my hcu control modual.
well most likely i did bc he is the story ... :/

i'm broke and the truck needed brakes drove on it for 1 week til li got my paycheck....GENTLY! then on the wya to get the pads and rotors the pedal goes al he way to the floor:( the brake light lite up and the resivior was about 1/4 full...way below min value. put more fluid in it hopeing i wouldn't have screwed myself...limped home and now the resivor is pretty much empty.

i'm replaceing the caliper but what special tool will i need to bleed the hcu 4-wheel abs system..... just a vacum pump hand tool? or something else?

also i intend while i am doign this to disable the abs bc i off road and on the road...i really can't stand it!

any help would be appreicated....i have lots of tools and access to even more tools, lots of knowldge with even thign else just not abs systems and if possible would prefer NOT to take it up to a dealership to have them do the bleeding so any ideas and thoughts?

 

All you need to bleed the brakes is a friend and doing it old school style.

Replace the calipar, fill the reservior, then starting with the new calipar just have them push down on the pedal -you loosen and bleed, tighten screw, they let up, then push down again, -you lossen / bleed, repeat at all 4 corners until you have clear brake fluid bleeding out at all 4 corners.

Once you have done that see if the pedal feels right to you after the pads and rotors have had a chance to seat properly. If the pedal still feels spongy then go onto a dirt road and get into the ABS a few times. Then go re-bleed the brakes again.

so then the the vacum pump is the tool the hayes manual is refering to when they say you need a "special tool" or is that something else?

 

The special tool is actually a "One Man Bleeder Kit". This allows you to bleed brakes without another person. Just do it "old school" as described above.
