Hey there Ranger nuts... I came across this site and just had to ask. I have a 99 XLT reg cab, well taken care of I guess, no mods on it as of yet. In the morning I drive about 35 miles to work, and when I return home while driving super slow or even at idle, I get this LOUD humming from under the hood. My brother tells me its something sticking, restricting airflow, cause every now and then it will die. Sorry this is long, just maybe someone else has had this problem. Thank you for your time.

Welcome to R-F, Jeremy.

First thing that pops to my mind is the IAC, since you say it sometimes dies - I assume you mean stalls instead of idling.

You can take the electrical connector off of the IAC while it is idling. If the idle doesn't change with it disconnected, the IAC is BAD.

If it quits humming, the IAC is BAD.

Use the Search button with "IAC" or "Idle Air Control" for more info.

Most of the time people with humming problems have a bad IAC. Fix that first it is easy to fix and cheap too.

I agree. IAC.

Does it make a different noise for the first 30 seconds or so when started cold?

No... I don't notice any difference in the idle... just the humming once I have driven for a while but only in the afternoon once it get pretty hot outside.... About how much does one of these cost? I have been coming up with different prices.

I'm not in the Navy. Did 6 in the Corps, 78-84 tho'. Spent some months on your gator ships, with a couple different HMH and HMM squadrons. Thanks for all THOSE rides, lol.

You're welcome, yeoman.
