Squeaking while braking

Yesterday I noticed a rather loud squeak while braking, the strange thing is that it is an intermittent squeak, doesn't happen every time I hit the brakes. This morning while driving through a parking garage I noticed a very quiet squeak that sounds like it's from the same source. I quickly looked at the rear drums yesterday and the shoes are pretty low but I doubt that this would be the source of my problem. I'm planning on changing the shoes and the springs tomorrow and I'm hoping that will fix my problem. Any other ideas that it could be? Thanks in advance!

are you still riding on stock brakes, what year is your truck. stock ranger brakes are known for squeaking and throwing alot of dust. also how many miles on those brakes.
I changed my stock pads at around 35,000 and they were way past due, almost metal to metal.

No the front rotors and pads are about 2 weeks old, I tried putting some of that stuff that is supposed to quiet squeaky brakes and changed the shoes and springs in the drums. Yet it still squeaks, I'm taking it in to the guy who changed the fronts for me because I'm stumped, I'll let you know what I find out.

I took it to the guy who had replaced the rotors and pads, he went through it and checked the rotors, pads, and calipers and found no problems, even tried adjusting the backing plates a bit to ensure that wasn't rubbing and causing the noise. He checked the bearings and saw no issues. So I took it to the shop that re-geared the differential for me since I went to much larger wheels, they listened to it with me and said that's not the kind of sound a dif. would make and suggested maybe it was the U-bolts or the hanger bearing. They went through and said the U-bolts were good and the hanger bearing was no good, so they changed that out for $40. That still didn't solve the problem so they looked at the drums and suggested they be resurfaced. I didn't have the time to drop the truck off and since the drums on there were original parts with 147,xxx miles on them I picked up new ones on my way home and swapped them out with no effect on the noise. So I've submitted to the possibility that I'm just going to have squeaky brakes for a while. So I'm hoping that with time and some miles they'll work through whatever is causing the noise. Thank you for your suggestions! I'm done driving myself crazy trying to hunt down this mysterious noise! lol

probably just your pads and rotors combined

my EBC brakes make noise. i've done everything i can to try and stop it and it just keeps coming back. im thinking it has something to do with my cheap rotors.

So is mine. i actually went and got my duralast ceramic pads for free under warranty and swapped to those until i get nicer rotors from EBC. no more noise haha

Maybe I'll do that next week. I'm heading out to the desert to have some fun this weekend, so I'll just be that guy with the loud brakes :biggthump

thats funny, because I am actually pretty happy with my Duralast ceramic pads, they dont quite have the stopping power I would like and they put out a little dust, but they are actually very quiet.

my brakes squeak every once in a while...prolly because the dealer put the cheap NAPA junk on before they put in on the lot and they only are noisy when they get a little heat in them

Yesterday I was driving with the rear third window open and I heard the squeaking while driving and it sounds like the rears are dragging, so I'm going to try opening them up and backing the shoes off a bit in one last effort to fix this problem.
