ok so i was driving my truck all day turned it on and off about 3-6 times and it worked flawlessly but then i went home shut it off for about 2 min and it wont start at all....


so i tried to jump it and still nothing then i went and bought a brand new Red cap battery still wont start and now it sounds like the starter is not kicking in i know its not the alternator b/c it would start off the battery.

are their any fuses i should check and if so which ones


help !!!


also it made some really strange fast clicking noises before i tried to jump it, it did it with or with out the key in the ignition it sounded like it came from under the steering wheel

 

Check the ground cable connections from the battery.Should be 2.One to the engine and one to the body.

 

also check the battery connections, make sure they're tight and the wires can't be pulled out of the connections or are super corroded or anything

 

Pull the starter and bench test my starter just up and seized up on me one day i that i was doing alot of driving but mack sure you check all the grounds and relays first.

 

where exactly is the starter and i may have found the problem b/c i was looking for the ground connection on the engine bay and i found a lose bracket and it was similar to the one on the body

 

i dont know whats wrong i put my moms car up to the new battery let it run for about 6-8 min looked at some more fuses but each time i pulled it out and put the fuse back in i tried to turn it on then i found the right fuse i guess i unplugged it and put the SAME fuse back in and it fires right up .....


so either i had a fuse in the wrong spot or my moms car jumped i really have no idea...................

but none the less its fixed

 

Good to hear it's fixed. At least it happened while you were at home and didn't get stuck while out shopping or at work or whatever.

 

ya i got lucky and im just going to assume its a temp fix and replace the starter after all the 6 year old stock battery was still in it i imagine i have the stock start as well

 

Just another thing to check.... I've had a lot of intermittent starting problems recently. I found that the positive wire on the starter had a bad connection (had corroded over time). I disconnected the battery, pulled the wire off, cleaned it with a wire brush and some contact cleaner, then re-assembled it all. Turns over without fail every time now.

It's just something cheap and quick to check before parts start getting replaced.
