Starting issues

My ranger won’t start, has new battery but seems to only have half voltage running to everything, the buzzer only goes half as loud as it should. When I turn the key, the fuel relay will click for about 2 minuets even after the key has been removed. The starting solinod drops to 4 volts on the multi meter after I turn the key. I have read the check engine light codes but I don’t know what they mean. The truck died while it was running. Hopefully someone has some insite on this.

Welcome to the forum

Reads like Battery cables are due for a change, they due get corrosion INSIDE the cables, you can cut back the insulation and look for whitish residue, thats corrosion

What year Ranger, and what engine?

It’s a 1991 ranger ext cab with a 4.0. I’ll read the codes again tomorrow and check for corrosion.

The flashing check engin light code flashes as this, 676711414, I’m assuming that’s it’s three codes, 676, 711, and 414. Does anyone have a list of all the codes? Or know what these ones are?

1991 Ranger will use 2 digit codes, 1993/4 used 3 digit not sure about '92

Seen here: OBD-I Diagnostic Trouble Code ? 2-Digit Ford Codes : The Ranger Station

You should see a Pause, so 6 flashes, 7 flashes, Pause, 6 flashes, 7 flashes, pause, 1 flash, 1 flash, pause

67 is a neutral switch issue, depending on manual or automatic, not a big deal

41 is a Lean code but may be older

After confirming codes pull jumper wire while codes are still flashing, that will clear code memory, so you can check codes later to see if any returned

Anyone have any tips for getting the neutral safety switch out? It’s in such a hard to reach place, there is barely enough room to get a wrench onto it. It’s an a4ld transmission.
