I want to mount my antenna on the driver side rear of the truck by the tailgate. I have been told thats not a good location and I should swich to the passanger side. Is there any truth to this. I am new to the C.B. thing and am trying to figure this out

Looks good. But I do want it on the driverside. I dont know why but I want to see it in the drivers mirror and not the pass. side. Is there something wrong with the driverside as far as reception? I will move to the otherside if I have to. I built a mount for it but i bought the same mount you did from Alon just in case

 

you actually don't see it in any of the 3 mirrors unless u move ur head outta the way to see it lol

You are seriously mounting it so you can see it?.....weird.

If you don't like the rear of the truck mount, you could mount it where I mounted mine for a while, and you'll be able to see it all day long in your mirror.

 

I just left work so no good day shots left. Yea its weird but I have this thing that I need to see the tallest point of my vehicle in the mirror, and yes Im thinking of mounting it closer to my cab like yours^^. Im just wondering about signal strenth. Ive heard the center of the vehicle is best but Im just looking to get good signal with people that are close by... dont need to hit the 5 mile range.

 

should get the FireStik bed pocket mount then if u wanna mount it up close to the cab..

 

i mounted mine on the side of my toolbox on the driverside.
with the help of someone with lots of experience with CB's.
ive been told the middle of the truck is the best place to mount it, but doing it on either side wont make a noticeable difference
he also told me, you lose range by mounting it on the back. the center of the truck, from the front and back, and right and left, is the ultimate best place to mount the antenna. since the vehicle itself becomes part of the antenna.

Toolbox is not a good place for an atenna mount. Doesn't get a good enough ground and over time can fry your radio without the proper resistance running through it (antenna)... A bad ground is the first problem to a lot of CB malfunctions.

 

well. Iwent to the truck stop to talk to people there. I found that the only thing that makes a difference is grounding. Location just gives you high and low spots. So I went with a different location because I hit the thing twice today loading truck parts in it.

Now to the big problem. I ran the power and the cable hooked it all up got the tuner and, well nothing. My friend from work came by with his tuner and the tuner show nothing. Checked all connections for me, everythings was good and it still show I have no activity. So now Im worried I paid for a C.B. to be shipped to me that doesnt work. Any insight

 

I have always had mine on the left side. No problems yet.

Mounting it on the driver or passenger side makes no difference in performance either way. It will be the same on either side. If you mount it to the front bumper, it will be the same as mounting it to the back bumper.

In any case, when you have an uneven ground plane, it will adverselt effect your transmit performance. For instance, if you mount the antenna on the back of the truck, your transmit performance the rear will suffer. If it is in the back-left corner, your performance to the back and left will suffer. If you mount the antenna dead center on the roof or something like that, you will get fairly even performance all the way around.

With that said, we're talking about CB radio here. There is nothing precision, quality, or performance about it in the grand scheme of things. The degraded peformance from having the antenna somewhere other than dead center is kinda moot.

And tool box mounts are fine. You just need to ground it properly.

I love my Wilson 5000 magnet mount.

A normal person would be fine with a Wilson 500 or 1000 but my setup would murder both of those.

 

OK, guys ...my question is Where do you run the coax?
Did you have to drill your own hole, or is there a nice place to run it through?

this is the mount i made for my tool box and actually it can ground out if the the stud touches your mount but if you isolate it like mine is then its fine

 

Still not a proper place for a ground. It has to go through the aluminum, then through the paint to the bed sides. I've just been told my CB pro's this isn't a good place at all. But that's just me.
