Temp and Oil Gauges - slow to wake up.
The water temp and oil pressure gauges on my '99 4.0 don't work when I first start her up in the morning. The needles are at rest on the bottom pin. After a mile or two, they start flicking between the at-rest pin and a "normal" reading for several seconds, making a clicking sound, and then they begin to work normally. The speedo, gas and voltage gauges are all fine. Does this indicate a problem with my cluster?

good ? my 3.0 does it too

water temp should not move right away.
oil pressure should but its a dummy gage.. maybe check the sensor? |
Hmmm... thanks! I'll look into that.

Yeah, my oil has been doing that form tiem to time randomly.. naturally, the Check Gage light will flash until its in the normal position.. it only does it randomly from time to time.. Im having a hard time pinnign down why it is doing it every other day, doesnt matter if its a cold start or not

First of all, I was being stupid about the temp gauge. It's doing exactly what it's supposed to do. No problem there.
The word I'm getting from both here and elsewhere is that the oil pressure sender is most likely the culprit. I'll change that when I get a chance to work on the truck again. Things get insanely busy for me from now until the end of the year. Thanks again, everyone! Have a nice Thanksgiving, too. I know I've got a lot to be thankful for and I'm sure everyone here does, too. Even in the face a very trying year financially, God provides. Amen? |
