Towing

Does anybody think that it would be unsafe to tow a 4500 lb van on a hitch that is rated for 3500lbs? i'm pretty sure the ranger could tow her but will the hitch? going from brooklyn, ny to hartford, ct (about a 2hr ride)

i would say yes. i think the biggest difference between hitches as far as the safe weight rating has a lot more to do with the way they mount to the frame. lower weight hitches are generally not mounted as strong, meaning it could potentially damage the frame of your truck

I would not do it. I d use a full size truck that out weighs what your towing. I hauled a VW Passat last week for a freind that was maybe 5000 with the trailer weight with my f150 no 180 miles no way I would have used my Ranger.
