I would do it. But i would not go a long distance because the tranny might overheat.

Well i say not on a flat bed trailer but with a tow dolly should be fine! I just got done towing a 95 camero on a tilt bed trailer and the trailer weighed almost as mutch as my truck without the car! but i only towed it about 20 miles.

I wouldn't. I have a 96 4.0 46000 original miles Automatic, Trans cooler ,tow pkg etc. I have been looking to buy a small 13ft Scamp travel trailer. Weight about 1000 lbs. Just made a 2000 mile run in the Ranger with just the shell on. What a gutless wonder. Dont get me wrong I love Rangers I've had 4. Flat out it will run out great but pulling a few hills, highest 8000 ft elev, it wouldn't go over 55. I'd be scared to pull even a small scamp trailer. Just my opinion of course.

I love opinion related questions like this. You have a 2001 4.0 SOHC 2WD.
You now have the opinions of 2 3.0 owners, and the owner of a 4.0 OHV.

Here is the opinion of a 4x4 4.0 automatic owner...

I have towed 3497 pounds of truck batteries(scale ticket) on an 1800 pound tandem trailer, with 557 pounds of batteries in the bed.
5297 pounds on the trailer, and 557 in the bed, for a total of 5854 pounds. The truck did well on straight aways, and accelerating. Hills were slow, but I could maintain speed...

Look in your owners manual, and look up the towing capacity of the 2WD.
The 4X4 automatic has much higher towing capacity than the 4x4 5 speed..., so you need to be sure, before you tow anything. Make sure if you do tow it, the trailer has brakes, you will need them.

Do you have a auto or manual ? If you have an auto it MIGHT be ok. Check your owners manual for the tow rating of your truck. I would guess if you have an auto it would rated to tow 5,000 lbs maybe almost 6,000 lbs. I wonder what the F250 weighs ?

How did you plan on towing it heavy duty trailer ?

automatic. and i dunno how i was gonna tow the damn thing.

the guy hasnt even gotten back to me yet, first off. but i was thinking, if it has rear wheels that move, i could tow it, nose end up on one of them thingies. OR i would do a trailer... but the more i think about it... im thinking its too risky and i might just get AAA to tow it for me. for free =)

lol, i hope he calls me back. the 250 is an 83 with a 460. doesnt run. that's about all i know about it... lol
