trans delay shift

My 2003 Ford ranger -4.0-4x4 takes 2-5 minutes to shift into drive BUT once it shift in drive the trans acts like it was a brand new tranny-I can spin the tires from a stand still and it shifts good and firm in all gears- overdrive works good 4x4 works good no codes no lights & in the morning I shift into reverse it goes right in gear then I back out into the street and wait sometime 54-5 minutes to go into gear and then is fine-I have dropped the tranny pan-changed the one solenoid which I think is the torque converter hook-up-I removed the valve body put new gaskets one to trans body & one between valve body-torque everything to specs --no change -changed filter also and new fluid but to no avail- ANY Suggestions on where to look next-Thanks Rich

You have a 5R55E transmission
Since there is no delay for Reverse fluid pressure is OK

Reads like the Forward one-way clutch pack is not engaging

Could be the clutch itself or maybe pressure issue in valve body

Have a read here: https://www.sonnax.com/parts/2128-ep...nt-control-kit

1/4 cup of breakfluid in the tranny. Works wonders
