Transmission issues

Hi so I have a 1999 2.5L ranger that the transmission went out on so I got another transmission from a 1995 but the connectors are different. Can I make it work? What do I have to do to make it work?

???

Manual or automatic

If automatic then its not a 1995, maybe a 1994 A4LD, 1995-2001 4R44E all used same 16 pin connector, same connector was on 5R as well to 2011

A4LD won't work in 1995 or up Ranger, it had a 3 wire connector

Then they will have the same 16 pin connector, its a 4R44E automatic transmission

Looks like this:
Amazon Amazon

or this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/INTERNAL-WI...-/281591119390

The 16 pin part stick up out of the transmission case just in front of the shifter on drivers side, the rest of the wires seen, connect to the solenoids and sensors inside the pan

There is a second connector but its for reverse lights and starting, 5 or 6 wires, I think, it goes on a switch on the shifter, called the DTR sensor

So the shift selector can be changed on the donor transmission? That is my biggest concern right now other then the output shaft speed sensor that my transmission doesn't have.

If there is no OSS on the 1995 then you can't use that transmission, I think the 1995-1997 used VSS so no conversion is possible, you need a 1998-2001 4R44E

The 1995(donor) has an oss the 1999(mine) does not

1995 has VSS on tail shaft, gear driven, 8,000ppm signal

1999 should have OSS on tail shaft, 20,000ppm signal, thats how computer determines when to shift

There was another sensor near the bell housing, front top of transmission, it was never actually used and was removed in 1997 I think

Neither transmission has a sensor near the bell housing the 1999 does not have a tail shaft sensor

Odd, then you should be OK, I think the bell housing sensors was just on the 5R55E 1997/98
