Turn Signal Issues!

I have a 2003 ford Ranger XL that has been having turn signal issues.

-Hazards work fine
-Turn Signals, Work/Don't work

Just Replaced Multfunction Switch, works sometimes, clicks a couple times, goes still, very inconsistant to even tell you how this thing is operating.

All I know is everyone has been telling me to switch out the multifunction switch and I did and I'm having the same problems!

Any information would be greatly appriciated.

maybe the flasher relay is bad?

1st off there no reason for an attitude, speaking 4 myself this is the 1st time i seen this post, 2nd with an attitude like that you wont get any help so chill out man, i'm thinking its the flasher or wire or connection related where your multifunction switch plugs in check the connections

Sorry that you weren’t answered sooner but just maybe no one on the site at the time knew a correct answer and didn’t want to look like an @ss telling you something wrong.

When I replaced the Multi-Function Sw’s on two Rangers I found the connector to have loose pins, not staying in the holes, and another vehicle I found a broken latch on the outside of the connector, both problems were intermittent.

To fix the loose pins I used small needle nose pliers and opened up the tabs on the side of the pin and that worked; on the broken latch I used small tie wraps to hold the connector to the sw.

Good Luck

I have run across a similar issue. Scrambler, were you describing bad pins where the new multiswitch connects?
Also, could bad bulb(s) cause problems with the turn signal operation even if they still light intermittently? My new multiswitch hasn't been the fix I was hoping for... yet...

Thanks all!

p.s. Where is the flasher relay found? Is that housed within the multiswitch?

under ur dash where ur steering column runs threw the plastic knee board there is a metal cross brace it sit's on that metal dash brace.if u turn on ur 4ways ull hear it to find it easier mine was blue

Good point on the bulbs… but what about:

Sockets
Grounds
Wiring in general

Just thinking out loud and if already mentioned, forget me !

StxDangerRanger 01-08-2011 08:09 AM

it sounds like loose wires in the switch. either that or a bad flasher relay.

Always start with easy first.I would check bulbs.

Late

I am sorry I am responding so late to all of this! Thanks so much for the help and advise. I replaced the multi-switch, but still had issues with the turn signal. So I crawled around until I found the relay and replaced that. The replacement looked quite different from the new one. The old one was also a real pain to remove.
That being said, works like a charm now!

On to my next issues!
Thanks again!

Turn Signal Issues

Hello I have a 2003 Ford Ranger XLT and the passenger front turn signal does not flash. Inside is a rapid clicking and no light on the dash flashing. I have replaced the bulbs and replaced the multi function switch as well as the relay and I still have the issue. Also the light works when on as a parking light. And the light does not flash when using the hazards. Any ideas??? Please help.

Welcome to the forum

You should start your own thread to get help faster, no one looks at old threads, lol

Assuming 1999 Ranger

In cab fuse box check that fuses 10 and 21 are OK
Check with volt meter that fuse 21 has 12volts all the time<<< for 4-ways
And check that fuse 10 has 12v with key on<<< for turn signals

In 1999 Fuse 27 in cab fuse box is for back up lights, check fuse and test for 12v with key on
Manual or automatic trans?
They use different switches for the back up lights
Back up lights have no connection to turn/4-way except the cab fuse box for 12volts, which is why you need to test there for voltage

Its possible the frame is not grounded but I wouldn't expect park lights in the rear to work or brake lights

If you or someone else installed LED bulbs then that could be the problem

RonD thanks for the help. Ok Update fuse 27 was blown and now have a backup light. I hope the other one is just burned out. I will replace today. The other fuses show receiving 12 V. Earlier today I was checking the flasher relay under the dash all leads show current except for the White and red.

RonD 01-05-2021 03:51 PM

2 Attachment(s)
red/white is from fuse 21 for the 4-ways
white/red is out to turn signal switch

1999 diagram below

1999WhiteRanger 01-05-2021 05:04 PM

I had replaced the turn signal (multiswitch) which the white and red wire goes to and is the wire not displaying any voltage on the yellow switch relay. I'm kinda confused as to my next step.
