Using stock fog lite switch for my KC switch...need wire color breakdown

Hi.

I want to use my stock fog lite switch for my newly installed KC lites. I know you can wire up the switch to the KCs and use them just as the foglites were used....but I don't want to do that.

I want to use the switch independently of the headlites. Just like using an auxilary non-stock switch....but I want ot use the stock switch.

I need a breakdown of the colors on the pigtail for the foglite switch. I have a pigtail I cut off a truck at the junkyard.

Colors:

Green/Brown stripe
Red/Black stripe
Black
Blue/Orange stripe

Thanks for anything!!

Shane

I believe there is a write up somewhere that you can leave everything the way it is an use the current wire to trigger the relay that came with the lights. If the lights didn't come with a relay then I'm sure there is a way to wire them up.

Sorry if I didn't help.

You might be able to added a second factory switch above the original and wire it for the aux lights. You'll have to cut the opening in the panel, but the mounting bracket should already be there.

I opted to use the relay in the below diagram as a low current control for the higher current relay mounted in the engine compartment. This way you can tap the cig lighter for power for the switch and control relay keeping everything nicely tucked behind the panel and only run one wire out to the engine compartment. The headlight feed (HL) can be taped from the original switch term 5.

Not sure about the wiring colors you listed. My 2001 ETM shows them as follows:

pin 1 not used
pin 2 not used
pin 3 (LB/BK) fog lamp switch to front fog lamp relay (ground control for factory fog lamp relay coil)
pin 4 (BK) ground
pin 5 (LB/RD) power hot with headlamps on (cluster panel illumination feed)
pin 6 (TN/OG) fog lamp switch to front fog lamp (switch on indicator lamp)

Note the relay shown is a SPDT but a SPST will also work.

I think he has the pigtail from a rear window defroster switch, not a Ranger fog lamp switch.

Hope somebody answers this. I have my front two spotlights hooked up to the factory switch but I can only use it like the fog lights, no high beams and front spots at the same time and have to have the parking lights on at least to run them.

But it is not like I need high beams with 6 spotlights on, so free bump haha

You know...I think I may have clipped it out of an exploder. I'll prob have to hit up the junkyard again.

Does it matter which relay I use?? I can just use a regular old 4 prong 30A one right? I'm really sketchy right now about wiring...it's been a while.

I'll post a diagram of what I think will work using the above diagram and another threads diagrams.

No it doesn't matter which relay you use. I just happened to have an extra SPDT in my scrap box so I used it.
