Simple wire question

Hey there guys, I have a Audiovox Prestige APS 996a security system, now the siren output or something on it is shot so the unit puts out barely enough power to make the siren loud enough to hear with hood closed (I can get vid). So I have decided to just hook up the horn output because it's the only thing that will work as "siren", the horn output is a negative output so what wire will I hook this to on my truck?

I would prefer a wire under my dash or around there, it is installed on truck in my sig.

The siren output only puts out 4-7 volts at full blast, and lowest (even when off) is putting out 2.47 or so, so it is still quietly going . . . what a piece. And to think I paid an extra $100 for remote start that I don't use and a 2-way pager.

Thanks Guys

Don't the Ranger horns operate an an on/off negative ground, like you ground it to make the horn sound?

yes the horn output FROM the security module is a negative output, that means it provides -12 volts when alarm is going off, or beeping. All I really need to know is what wire (if any) is the on/off ground wire for the horn??

try a new siren....maybe there is nothing wrong with the alarm.....water logged sirens sound like what your describing....but if not and youve got to use the horn trigger here: if you have cruise on your year truck you should have a negative horn trigger(yellow/light green)...if not youll have to look for a wire that tests positive when you hit the horn(blue) either of these should be at the steering column.....if its a positive trigger(no factory cruise) you'll have to use a relay with that alarm cuz its only gonna have negative horn output. But you may not need to do that......check your fuses (their should be two of them up at the steering column......maybe one fuse is blown and its backfeeding to the rest of the system so that circuits isolated on that line are only getting part of what they need......oh yeah check all your grounds....im not the biggest fan of audiovoxs stuff but (personally i prefer directed) but it is ultra reliable....
