wont start

wont start

ok the other night i went to the store i was low on gas. as i took off from the stop sign it just died on me. i tried to pop the clutch and nothing happened so i figured i was out of gas i put some in and the truck still wont start all it does is crank but wont turn over can someone pls help me before i blow it up. thanks

Do the basics. Check for Spark, Air, Fuel and Compression, in that order.

well i found a blown fuse under the hood i replaced it it started for like 10 secs and then the fuse blew again
somone told me it was the ignition silinoid or some **** but im unable to find it

yeah just not sure what. the fuse that keeps blowing is the maxi 1 under the hood

what was the fuse number...they usually have that on the cover

Well fuse 1 goes to your ignition switch so that would most likely be where your problem is.

From that fuse it goes through your fire wall and splits into 4 wires (all of these are yellow) and these four goto your ignition switch.

Just as a guess I would say there is a short in your switch, afterall it is part mechanical and can wear out and cause shorts.

If it was me I would grab a switch from another vehicle and see if it starts then. The switch in your truck is the same in hundreds of ford vehicles. You can take a look at the switch here and click on compatibility to see all the ones that the switch is in:

Just about any ranger from 95-04 has the same switch.

The switch is located right underneath the steering column.

ok cool thanks. someone i know told to also check my ignition module but im uable to find it i was told it was in my grill or possiablly under the dash somewhere.... i will diffentlly check out the switch thanks for the info.

your ignition control module is on your intake....if original its grey and has a plug that goes in the top and one in the bottom, lots of wires

ok ive finally got some time to work on my truck. i removed the igniction switch is there any way to tell if its bad so i dont go and buy a new one and end up not needing it?

well she started up after changing the ignition switch. shes running very very rough though hopefully once the computer resets she'll be running **** to the wall again. once again thanks to everyone for the advice and help....
