2001 Ford Ranger new to ford forum PLEASE HELP !!
Hello forum, & TY for reading.
I have just picked up a 2001 ford ranger . I am new to ford, never owned one.
So Bought this from private owner on Sunday, it seemed to be a clean little pick up, but I noticed that the temperature was not warming up , it stayed for the most part on COLD or even below the Cold mark on temp gauge but an hour after purchasing I took it out for drive on freeway, clocked the rpms up to 7000 or 70 MPH & all of a sudden there was a loud annoying continous beeper that went off. Once I dropped the RPMs below 7000 or 70 mph that subsided . So this vehicle was once a fleet truck owned by a pest control company. Only thing I can think is that the company has some form of governor or safety chime that goes off when the employees get speed to 70 mphs which is a good thing but for a private owner it is ANNOYING !!
I found this lead wire along driver side of the dash & followed it to a disk of sorts laying up on dash in window that I did not see before purchased. I am assuming that may be the wire to this beeper of sorts but not sure. Does anyone know anything about this & how to disable because I can not get speed up to 70 mph without the very LOUD beeping continuing. ?
Also, Yesterday took the vehicle out for 40 mile drive round trip, to appointments as I am terminally ill & currently disabled. I noticed on the way back on that 40 mile trip that almost at the end of the trip the CHECK ENGINE light lit up & is still on. The day I bought the vehicle I had seen one light on dash come on said, "check gauges " but does not stay on.
Then Today I was out in the vehicle & had the air conditioner on, when I parked in my drive way I turned air conditioner off & the vehicle kind of stuttered or almost died. Does anyone have any ideas on what is going on with this vehicle as I am terminally ill & currently disabled & spent all I could right now to pick up this vehicle to get me to my medical appointments as well as care for my aging elderly mother. I also would like to know hwo to turn off check engine light as that makes me very nervous when I must drive this vehicle. Is there a way to clear the code of check engine ? I would appreciate any ideas you may have, This was the only thing I could think to turn to in this situation. TIA for reading . I hope to hear from you soon.

Welcome to the forum
Most auto parts stores will Read the Codes that caused the CEL(check engine light) to come on.
They do it for free
WRITE DOWN THE CODES!!!!!
They will also Clear the codes and CEL will go off until a code is set again.
Post codes here
Not sure what device in dash is?
If it is the "beeper" then removing it would stop the beep
May need to follow that wire to the module that sets the speed to activate the beep
As far as I know it is not a Ford option, even on fleet vehicles
