Water pump and oil pan questions...

I appear to have a leaking water pump and am wondering if there is a better water pump than the one that comes in the truck?? I'm particularly looking for one that is NOT made for a fan clutch.

The front of my oil pan is wet and while I'm not sure if it's actually oil or water running from the water pump, I'd like to know before I dive into this if removing the oil pan can be done with the engine in the truck. I really don't want to have to pull the engine.

Thanks.

the pan can be dropped without removing the engine. if you have a leak then you may be getting stuff in there so id replace the pump and seal/gasket as soon as possible. its really coolant and water running through the water pump.

so why are you pulling the pan?

On the 2000 4x4 the oil pan won't come off with the motor still in the truck. The front diff is in the way. The water pump appears to be leaking because it has a seep hole in the bottom. This is there to let you know that the water pump is going and to replace it. I don't think there is anything wrong with a mechanical pump such as the ones in our trucks. You could always put a electric fan on the truck and eliminate the clutch fan.

I was asking about the pan mostly just in case there's actually a leak in the oil pan gasket and I need to pull it.

Regarding the water pump, I just figured that since I have to replace it anyway, I might as well see if there's anything better. I also figure that since I have an electric fan, I may be able to get a water pump that's not setup for a fan clutch.

almost any truck u will need to at least lift the engine to R/R the pan and/or gasket but it can be done.

as for the water pump, the fan clutch snout shouldnt be an issue and i dont think theres any HD water pumps out there. if u didnt have A/C id say get one for an A/C equip'd truck but that ideas out.

The reason I'm worried about the fan snout is because I have a set of underdrive pulleys here that my neighbor bought for his Xploder but they didn't fit. He's telling me that they'll fit my truck and since I have to take the water pump off anyway, I figure I'll try putting them on. The only problem I can see is that the snout for the fan clutch is wider than the hole in the water pump pulley.
