Welding Class Final Project

so right now im taking a welding class and we have the option of doing a final project or doing a write up. (i wanna do the project) haha. and i was thinking of building a custom light bar...

but does anyone have anything else that is rather simple that i could build?

as for the light bar i was thinking of just building it out of steel tubing and just making the corners sharp (would be a different look) as opposed to rounding them b/c i dont have access to a pipe bender up here at school. even getting at a saw to cut the tubing is going to be a big part of this... but anyways, i was thinking of building a flange so that the bar just bolts onto the frame in the same place as my towhooks and just doubling them up.

i dunno yet i have to get out to my truck and see what kind of space i have left.

anyway, any ideas or suggestions.

OH, throw this out there: if you guys suggest something, and i build it, and you like it.,.. just pay for the shipping and its yours... haha. otherwise, no practice is bad practice.

k, thanks for the time guys!

No Biggie, he can modify the rod holder design. The link is an example.

you could make some rock rails, just some square tubing down the side of the truck and weld the brackets to the rail and flanges to bolt it to the truck

I'd take some sliders...

I would try and build a hitch if I were you, seems kinda easy!

****, your lucky, my final for welding 4 was building a 8x12 trailer with tandem axles

It is still useful. Did you get to keep it?

Good luck with the Light bar. Do you have any drawings of how you are designing it? I would love to see it.

I have nothing of it. We used CAD to make it (blueprints) and the trailer was in Utah (where I lived before) I used it for my 2 dirtbikes...but since I have a truck, i sold it right when I got here.

Drayke, while you're at it, how about you cut up and mount some 1/4" plates to the underside for some skidplates? You have access to the tools and the welder.

uh, if i have time, send me some schematics for the mounts and ill see what i can do. i have a limited amount of shop time... but if i have extra ill try and get it done for you dude. just send me the specs.

and no i dont have a drawing. well i do, but not on the computer. the bar im thinking of making looks really similar to the westin safari style light bar. http://www.stylinconcepts.com/parts....rtfamilyid/926

except without the skid plate.

they're not that great off-road... they take up alot of your approach angle.

I say build the rock sliders.

I saw stacy david put a spare tire holder in the box of project Crazy Horse. That would be a cool idea to fab up yourself seeing as how his broke off somehow and sent the tire flying through the field
