What would you guys recommend i don't want to spend over 50 bucks.

I know Justin had said something to me about getting a different mic once i got one but i don't remember what he said. I could get that later i just want to get a cb for now.

the radio is only as good as the antenna and the mounting spot.

there are multiple sites on the web on how a cb should work and how to get the best out of it. hit up google. heres one: Things Every CB'er Should Know -- ©1997 FIRESTIK® ANTENNA

my cb was tuned by a cb shop in indiana. so for all them annoying ppl doing dumb crap i key my mic and shut them down.

I have the $50 model from wal-mart (cobra 19 DX VII?), 4 foot firestick antenna, stake pocket mount, and a cheap cable. Works fine for wheeling, atleast it worked great out at the dunes. I dunno about on the road, never had a use for it on road.

Heres that mount:

I must have that doo dad, because I get no interference from the engine, and that is where my antenna is mounted. Hell, my radio is silent other than the occasional trucker.

I think the most important thing is the antenna and if your SWR is set up properly.

I used this site to set mine up and it works great. has a range of about 5-6 miles for both receiving and transmitting. At least thats the farthest I have confirmed.

Check out the tech section on Firestik's Website:

Tech-Docs Index

Should answer pretty much any question you have about setting up a CB radio.

i have my SWR around 1.5. depending on your setup yours might be different. i also have a tuner for it. so be sure your antenna has a good ground

i have a cobra 19 with the squelch and rf gain adjustment. have a PA hooked up to it too.

with a 4' firestik. had a buddy tune my antenna for me, and it sounds great.

the mic it came with is just fine. and the speaker built into it is plenty loud.
