That sux about your battery! Hope no one was hurt.

The only recall for a potentially catastrophic failure that I remember was for the ignition switch in the steering column. It would short, or something, after you had turned off the ignition. On a rare occasion, you'd come back to your truck (and several other Ford vehicles, for that matter) and find it on fire.

There wasn't anything metallic that bridged the postive and negtive terminals of the battery? Any damage to the truck from the battery grenading?

Truck was parked. Exploded on start up. Close to home. Got a tow. Lots of baking soda and water. No problems since. Nothing about to short out battery-none found.

No recalls like that I've ever heard of. I think someone was just telling you that to make you feel better. When you have a battery with a bad cell they smoke and you never know it and when you start them they blow up. That's all. Replace the battery and life goes on.

even if there was a recall or TSB your truck is 12 years old and I bet you are not the original owner

A TSB doesn't warrant getting anything fixed though. A TSB is just to help the tech fix something it's still all customer pay. The recall applies to anyone but a battery issue would expire in 3 years anyways because Ford or any other manufacturer wouldn't expect a good battery to last that long anyways.

I believe he was inquiring as to a recall regarding wiring problems not the actual battery

Something like that happened infront of my dorm yesterday morning. A guy parked his car and came inside to pick up a friend, and when he came out, his hood was on firel. i think it was a ford focus.

Yea, that happens sometimes. Internal failure in the battery causes exessive heat and BAM. Be glad you weren't trying to jump start it at the time with your head under the hood!
