Towing with 3.0 engine, 1600 miles

I was checking to see if this is a good idea. I need to pull a 5 x 8 trailer from Seattle to Minnesota. Not a huge load. The truck is a 2001 extended cab with the 3.0 engine. The truck has 97000 miles on it and runs very well. What do you guys think? Is this too much to tow this distance, over the mountains, etc, or should I use a different vehicle. I also have a 1996 ranger with a 4.0 engine. I will drive out from MN empty, and get the trailer in Seattle and drive back to MN. Your opinions please. Thanks Tom

X2 on the 4.0 towing it easier. But I don't see the 3.0 having much trouble towing the trailer empty.
