Factory Fogs

i've been searching for a while but really haven't found any answers.

my 99 doesn't have fogs at all.

i'm adding 01+ bumper/valance with round fogs.

i have bulbs for it but no wires.

i just want to wire it up into the running lights so its always on with my lights on.

no switch inside the interior.

where can i find a plug to go into the bulb? and can i just straight wire it up into the running lights? or relay/fuse needed?

The dealer should be able to sell just the pigtails for the fogs.

Word of warning on the 01-03 round fogs, they love to hold moisture, I had 7 replaced under warranty and I replaced two more after that (they fill up with water and corrode the insides). About every other ranger I see from 01-03 has one moisture ruined fog. I had better luck with the 04-05 square lights.

Is there any way to fix the leaky fogs?

That's why I don't want to get HID's for my fogs, cause I don't want moisture to break them.

haha...caspers typing right now how he did his. lol!

In regards to the sealing of fogs. I had a huge issue of moisture before taking the valence off for about 2 years...then letting the valence sit outside and filling the fogs up with water from rain didn't help.

I've NEVER had an issues after I siloconed them up. And this has been almost 2 years being sealed. I disassembled them, seperating the front half with the glass from the backhalf with the reflector. Laid a nice even bead of clear bathroom silocone between the glass and plastic 'bezel'. Then when I was ready to put it all abck together, there's an o-ring that I covered with RTV when I reassembled. No pic of the o-ring, but I got a pic of the front seal. The next weak link is the bulb o-ring.

When I added fogs to my truck I added a separate wire harness with a relay and added an extra switch inside the cab. Any parts store should have the correct pigtails you'll need

you'll need 9145/H10 pigtails. I wouldn't just splice into your parking lights I'd run a relay and a switch

I'd do it right the first time no sense in doing it twice when it will only take a few extra minutes. Just buy a fog light harness with relay and switch.

Do it right the first time...no sense in ending up a fuse that pops constantly or ending up with a truck up in flames...

Do it right by using a relay and tieing into the battery for juice. Use the running light hot to 'switch' the relay to turn on the fogs if you are after a always on when parking lights are on. Personally, I'd run a switch....keep 'em seperate from the factory harness.

Fog light wiring

I have a 1999 Ranger XLT without factory fog lights. I've installed a factory valance with factory oval fog lights. I've installed a center bezel with the factory lighted fog light switch. The switch has 4 terminals. The switch pigtail I got from Ford has all black wires, NO COLOR CODING!

How do I determine the function of each of the 4 terminals on the switch so I can wire it correctly?

Also, the fog light pigtail wires (2 wire) are both black. Does it matter which one to ground and which to power?

Any help will be appreciated!

At least you have color coded donor pigtails!
My new pigtail wires(fog light to harness) from Ford($26.24each) are not color coded, nor is the switch pigtail. Both have all black wiring.

Do you have the original color codes from the donor pigtails?

I have a an older Chilton manual & the wiring diagram shows 3 wires to the switch.
The new factory lighted switch has 4 terminals.

Does your switch pigtail have 3 or 4 wires?

Could you give me the color codes on the switch pigtail?

PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

for the switch there is 4 wires, blue w/ black stripe, black, blue w/ red stripe, and orange w/ tan stripe.

on the pigtail from the fog light there is 3 wires- pink w/ white stripe, black and orange w/ tan stripe

Question: (a bad one since I've never seen these fogs in person yet). How did you separate the lens from the reflector? Heat? (stick em in the oven like the black headlight mod?) Or do they disassemble from the factory?
And my second dumb question, is RTV different than the silicone you used to seal the lens?

They disassemble, there are tabs on the back for you to separate them.
