blinking "THEFT" light?

my 2003 4.0 L supercab has a blinking theft light blinking inside of it when it is not running. is this an actual theft system or just a blinking light that acts as a deterrent? Also if I wanted to add the keyless entry with a alarm to it is their a way to hook right up into the blinking theft light?

Ha mine blinks too in my 99 but I never thought anything of it. Kinda makes me feel cool like I have an alarm but I'm actually pretty lame and don't have one.

Well it depends on the alarm that you go with, and who you have install it in ur truck. I have the Viper 5900 Responder SST, and i absolutely love the system. The Viper systems may be somewhat pricey but it is well worth the money. The Truck and the Pager Remote work together. It sends a signal back and forth to make sure that everything is ok. It also tells you if a door is open or what shock sensor went off when ur alarm go's off. My installer has a deal going on right now, for that system it is $500, and thats for the unit and the installation.

The theft light just tells you PATS is armed, it's not an alarm

I'm guessing it's the same as on my Escort. If so, it's an alarm. If I locked the doors with the remote it would arm and the horn would honk its *** off if a door was opened. It only worked if I locked it with the remote though. The damn blinky "THEFT" light seems to be capable of draining the battery if you just leave it parked for a couple months.

It is supposed to blink as others have said.
It is part of the PATS system installed by Ford. It can/will engage from a few things you can do to your truck such as short out a light circuit (headlight, tails, etc.) or if you disconnect the positive terminal of the battery before the negative.
It will lock the car down for half an hour if it feels it is being stolen.
I have engaged it far to many times before important events

I was goofing around with it by installing lights and crap and forgot to disconnect the negative terminal first and ergo it locked up.
second, i had a bad ground from the battery to the frame and from the battery to the block so random times the PATS system would feel an aditional charge as the grounds made good and bad connections and would lock my truck down.
Recently it locked my truck down for about a day and a half. but it was during summer so no big deal

Get a key made that 1 is not programmed yet, or just get a key that does not have the transponder in it.

The light will blink very fast and you cant start the truck.
