Wire Load Question
Can the stock fog light wires handle 2 fog lights per wire?
That may sound a little confusing. Let me explain. I am planning on running 2 sets of aftermarket fog lights on my new bumper, but I want to connect them to the stock fog light wires so I can use my stock fog light button on my dash. Will the left side fog light wires handle two 55w fog lights and will the right side fog light wires handle two 55w fog lights? Thanks for the help! -Mike |
well lets do some math. 2 fogs @ 55W each is 110W. 110W/12V=9.16A
So all you need is like a 16guage wire. I think you will be fine. |
i'd add relays to the second set of lights, you should be fine...

Stock fogs are 45 watts which is 3.75 amps each. Those 55 watt lights will be 4.6 amps each. Doing that will probably be pushing what that cheap wire can handle. You'd be better off putting it all on a heavy duty relay.

Well it just so happens I drew this very thing in Visio for R-F a while back.

Thanks Matt. I'll see what I can do off your drawing.
