Wiring Harness Questions
hello all, I have only posted a few times, and this may be a follow on to a previous post about electrical problems on my 1991 Ranger Manual 4.0 6cyl XLT. I just replaced the washer fluid pump as that went out, and after I put in the new pump I realized not only was the old pump bad, but the connection was very position sensitive. Depending on how I held the wires would factor into if the pump worked. With my previous posts showing exposed wires in the engine compartment from what was diagnosed as a massive short in the past, is the best solution to rip out the wiring and replace it? My friend said the engine wiring harness can be replaced, but I am not having any luck finding that online. Is this something I should attempt at undertaking, or is this an issue for a trained electrical mechanic. I realize there are a ton of wires in the engine compartment, so if I replace the wiring harness would that include the majority of the wires in the engine compartment? Thanks! |
1991 is pretty old and the 4.0l OHV engine was a popular engine to swap into older Rangers with the wiring harness, so any spares probably got used up pretty fast, 20+ years ago
I would cut the 2 wire washer pump connector off and try to find a match at wrecking yard, then splice new connector in |
That makes sense, thanks. So I suppose trying to redo all the wiring just is not an option anymore based on the age. if I send some pictures of wire damage in the engine, do you think you could help me figure a way to repair/replace what is needed?

I would look for an EVTM for 1991 Ranger like this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1991-Ford-R...oAAOSwLVZVspOm
It will have specific locations and wiring colors for the WHOLE vehicle. This is part of a Ford Service manual set that was sent out to Ford Service centers in late 1990 Ford does this for every model every year Nothing like a Haynes or Chilton, these are DETAILED and 1991 Ranger specific I will help if I can, problem is I never had a 1991 and wiring won't be exactly the same in 1990 or 1992, I do have a 1994, but it will be slightly different |
