How-to: Remove seat belt bar on explorer seats
Okay, I was speaking with a member some time ago about making brackets for the seat belt rail on explorer bucket seats. This rail bolts to the hump on the explorer, but is rather useless in our trucks. When I was test fitting the seats after making the inside rail holes of each seat big enough to be able to use the ranger bolts, I found that this bar hendered the movement of the seat. So I decided to get rid of it and here is what I did:
Tools needed:
Dremel tool with cut off wheels and a ginding stone
Assorted hand tools
Drill with 1/2 inch drill bit
Here is the bar that I was talking about:
I removed it and there were these 2 brackets sticking out:
So I removed them...I dont think you have to remove them, but I did.
Now there is nowhere to attach the seat belt, but there is this hole:
I peeled back the cloth so I could really see... again maybe needed maybe not. The hole is a little to small. I used the 1/2 drill bit just to make the hole a little bigger, then I used the dremel tool with a grinding stone to get the last little bit. I could have used a bigger bit, but i did not want to make the hole too big.
Okay back to the bar. The bolt that goes to the floor in the explorer seemed like a good choice to attach the seat belt to the seat. It has a space near the top before the threads start. This will allow the seat belt to turn.
Here it is in the seat belt hole:
To attach the the seat belt, I bought some lock nuts (I forgot to ask the size) and just installed them (its pretty easy )
And last but not least, put the new seats in your truck and you dont have to worry about the dumb seat belt bar!
Well thats it. Hopefully ya'll find this usefull!
