does it have a remote? or will it just do it off the key fob?

eddiefromcali 12-09-2009 08:10 PM

I think it works in conjunction with your aftermarket alarm

paintballer4758 12-09-2009 08:13 PM

lol alright well i dont have an aftermarket alarm but thanks for clearin that up

CAUTION!!!!

This is NOT a remote start unit! It's the additional unit needed if your vehicle has transponder keys. This will bypass the anti-theft transponder function when using the remote start feature.

You still need a compatible remote starte unit. This alone will NOT work.

I forgot to mention:

With this bypass module, you need to have your spare key inside this box. That's the only way for the module to get the anti-theft transponder code.

Thanks guy....

no prob. I feel guilty for posting that stuff but in the end, I'm happy to try and prevent some problems for both you and the buyer if you both think it's a remote starter unit.

I can see it now:

You: But the guy I bought it from said it was a BRAND NEW REMOTE STARTER!!!

Buyer: Well dude, IT'S NOT WORKING!!! @^&%^&

Then BOTH of you would be ticked off at each other for a simple misunderstanding. (unfortunate, I've seen it happen on another site. BOTH members were permanantly banned.)

no worries...I was told I needed this for my remote start/alarm install when I wanted to get it installed on an 07 Toyota Highlander I had. I think my wife has the same box in her 07 Camry too. Were both running Viper 791xv alarms...its an oldie but a goodie. So in order to have a remote start function, you need an alarm, the remote start module and this bypass kit right?

DE is good stuff so youre getting quality... not sure if this is the one that you need a key for or not but i use one and it works flawlessly

Not neccessarily. You don't even need an alarm. But a remote start module is needed along with this bypass kit. Unfortunately, I do not know if this bypass kit will work with EVERY vehcile manufacturer or just Fords. I imagine it's most vehicles though, but I'm not 100% sure.

I have the same one too. It DOES require a spare key to be put inside. When I purchased my Ranger, the wholesaler only gave me one key. After I paid $50 at the dealership to program the $10 key I got on ebay, I found that dandy box with the spare key inside.

I WAS PISSED! lol I could have saved myself $50 by programming the PATS system myself if I knew it was there. Oh well... live and learn. lol

From my research 5 months ago, there IS a module that doesn't require a spare key... but I don't remember the model number and I couldn't find it last night.

Either way, this module is cheaper anyway.... even if you want to pay $10 on eBay for a spare chipped key. The other module I think was around $100. YIKES
