Do the darkened tail lights restrict the visibility that much?

 

In the daylight, very much so. The real danger of tinted tails is driving on a sunny day, not at night.

At night tinted tails aren't as bad as everyone thinks.

Those looks pretty dark as well, he may post pics of them when they were installed on his truck

 

They are dark. At night there is no issue but during the day it's hard if not impossible to see them. You could strip them and re do it to your liking.
