1985 Ford Ranger windows, steering wheel
 

Greetings,

I bought a 1985 Ranger a couple of months ago, love the body style...I'm thinking of fixing it up to use as my main vehicle, but would like to find out if what I want is possible, if I can do it, or hire someone and costs...so any info would be great.

First is the windows...
Has anyone converted manual window to electric windows, is there a kit, or is my truck to old?

Second is my steering wheel...
I don't have tilt steering and the wheel is too big, too slanted and in my line of vision. Can it be swapped out for one with tilt, and/or can I just buy a smaller steering wheel and install it, or does it need a conversion kit?

Thirdly, the interior...
I don't mind the blue and white on the outside, but the 80's blue interior makes me want to hurl, so I'm thinking of painting it. Any tips on what brand paints to use and where to find? As in, is there special car interior paint that I have to use, or will any paint work...

LMC Trucks has power window kits for the 85

And I definately agree with the ugly blue ford interiors...

Yes like he said LMC Truck has them, but I'm pretty sure that if you search a little you could find a cheaper add-on kit. That LMC kit may be a good price, but while I have thought about converting mine I haven't priced them.

Well I definitely disagree with you on the blue gen 1 interior. Infact I think this thread needs a little improvement:

Did/am doing everything you are thinking about doing.

I got power locks, windows, door panels and wiring harness from an "89" Bronco II at a local U-Pull-It for $50. You'll need to add the circuit for the power locks, the window circuit is under the hood by the master cylinder. The wiring harness runs from the doors along the front fenders and enters the engine compartment on either side of the core support. You'll need to make a harness to connect from harness to harness and to pick-up power.

Tilt wheel from a "88" at local U-Pull-It was $26 including plastic trim and switches. Fairly easy in and out. Disconnect harnesses, unbolt shaft by master cylinder, unbolt shaft at firewall, unbolt shaft at dash bracket. then slide it out. One thing to consider, these were tilt wheel, not tilt column meaning the pivot in the column was directly behind the steering wheel not at the dash like most cars/trucks today. There are also many steering wheels available for your truck.

As far as the interior, I removed every piece of the interior, including the dash. Scrubbed and cleaned the parts with a grey scotch-brite pad. Then painted with Sem Color-Coat. There are others out there but I like the Sem product the best. I also have a pair of Mustang buckets to install. The interior isn't in yet, I'm waiting till I paint the exterior.
