I give up, need wiring help for the ohc. PISSSED(UPDATE)

Well, I got the map lights working, thats it. I don't know whats up. I followed the directions step-by-step and still confused. I am slightly colored blind, exspecially a little trouble on the blue and gray, but I did compare them to each other carefully.

In this pic, you can see where I tapped into the Yellow/Gray ,,,Blue/Red
wires. I connected the yellow/gray to the yellow/black behind the radio. Then, the Blue/red to the blue/red again, behind the radio. Now, this color is where I might have messed up, but triple checked to make sure, but not 100%.

The grey/black wire was easy for me, so thats fine, but look at it too.

Save picture as, so you can zoom in it clearly, same for rest of the pics too.

This is the a-pillar where the 5 wires are coming from.

So, please let me know what to do.

Thanks:
Matt

Are you saying the console doesn't light up at all when you turn it on? Did you try pressing the "Mode" button?

yep, nothing lights up, minus the map lights. I was holding the mode button in for like 15 seconds for the heck of it.

Do you have a voltmeter? Verify that you have 12 volts on the switched line of the harness connector to the OHC. I've had bad taps that resulted in open circuits.

If you have ground (which you must since your map lights work), and switched and unswitched 12 volts, you should have a display. If not, you may have a bad console.

If that turns out to be the case, don't panic. I have some spare, good console guts from sunroof consoles I use for repairs. I should have at least one set left.

Wait a minute. I see your problem. You don't tap yellow/gray on the radio. You tap yellow/black on the radio. You have no power to the console. Move the power wire to the yellow/black wire on the radio. Where I show the wiring I clearly state in my how-to to connect the wire that comes from the yellow/gray on the console to yellow/black on the radio.

Edit: Nevermind. You did it right it appears. It just looked like gray until I magnified it, sorry.

Sorry can't do more. It's hard when you're not there with the circuit -- even something simple like this.

Well, did the volt meter and the only thing that its reading is the speed sensor wire and the 2 wires for the map lights, thats it. I'm going to reconnect things behind the radio latter today.

If you want to drive an hour and a half out of your way I'm in Stuart every wednesday, I could meet up with you after I'm done with work (at 2pm) and help you out with it.

well, got the wiring all powered and everything lights up, BUT!!!!!. I'm having a terrible time attaching the ohc to the braket. Its not lined up right at all. PLUSSSSSS, I drilled through the roof a bit twice, I can see light through barely. I'm SO mad now, I said heck with it. I think I need some one to help who has done this before. I'll even throw some money at him/her.

I mentioned putting sleeves on the drill bits to keep that from happening. I'm very sorry. I hope you get it straigtened out. Small holes without dents are easily patched and painted. Put some putty in them for now so water doesn't come in. Hopefully, someone can show you how to fix it.

My apologies if my writing was not clear enough and contributed to the problem. I wouldn't want that to happen to ANYONE.

In my opinion aligning and mounting the bracket is the hardest part. If I had it to do over again, I don't think I would cut two slots in the roof at all, I'd cut out a big square and then align the bracket over it. My OHC is straight but its about 7mm towards the driver's side of the truck. I did put a VERY slight dimple in my roof where the bit broke through.

hey, while we're on the subject here.. i've got a quick question! im going to take my headliner out to recover it.. would it be easier to mount/align/setup the OHC while the headliner is out? or should i recover the headliner, put it back in, and then follow john's write-up for the install?

Well, I'm feeling better about the whole incident and no sunroof mod, its way up near the windshield. I'm going to call around and get some quotes. I'm thinking $200. I'm going to call the dealer first. I'll get a pic of it latter when I feel like it.
