Manual windows and locks to Power Windows

First time post!

I have a 2003 Ranger XLT SuperCab with manual windows and door locks. Has anyone tried (or heard of anyine trying) to make the windows and door locks powered?

Thanks!

There's a couple of ways to go here. Pick up a PW/PL kit from a company like A1 Electric:

http://www.a1electric.com/mes.htm

Or go to the junkyard, find a donor truck from a compatible year, and get the complete door panels, door harnesses, window motors, lock solenoids, power mirrors and the Central Security Module and its remote fobs. There may be more that I'm not thinking about, too. Since you have an XLT there is a chance that your dash wiring is already there - if not you would need to make up a subharness for that, too.

Kits on ebay

I just installed power locks and keyless entry on my 88 I got the kit of ebay for $40. It came with the keyles entry unit and 2 remotes and 2 actuators. Ther are no switches. Works very well. You can even have it lock the doors when you strt the engine and unlock when you shut it off. There Is also a power window conversion the uses a gear that slips over you handle crank inside the door. I used this kit on a99 S10 a while back. Worked out good also.

power window conversion

I was looking at doing the same, JC Whitney has a Custom kit to convert manual windows and door locks.. Which route did you take, pics, comments and tips would be appreciated.. Just had shoulder surgery, so manual crank is a pain... Complete Kit link here.. gonna look at a few junk yards too, anyone know what year range works with 2005 Ranger...?

YEah, I'd love a factory system. If anyone knows any way to make this work, let me know. I HATE being the only one in town wiht crank windows and maunal locks.

one main reason that i want power locks and keyless entry is so when its dark i dont have to worry about putting a huge scratch on my door trying to get the key in...
i want a factory system but im thinking id prob pay twice as much for a factory system, even though i dont know how junkyard prices work, and i dont know everything i need from the junkyard....
why do you need full door panels, not just the black insert?
and what would i need besides the parts in the door? What do i need for wiring?

Some stuff you need to install the factory PEG parts:

https://www.ranger-forums.com/forum2...99&postcount=3

Some models (like XLs) would need the the full door panels. Yours may not. You need to match them up to see.

Whichever way you choose to do it, sdditional wiring would need to be snaked through the accordian boots into the doors - fairly easy on the passenger side, more challenging on the driver side.

I would advise against buying autoloc if you go aftermarket. after doing alot of reading here and over on RPS, the SPAL kit has almost no complaints and there were enough complaints about autoloc crapping out that scared me away. I havent done this myself yet I'm waiting until I put a new centerconsole in cuz I want central buttons instead of on the doors.

The door wiring should be easy to get from a donor truck except for the limited access to the driver's side kick panel - the parking brake pedal mechanism is in the way. I don't know if your truck is fully wired in the dash for the PEG or not. You might get lucky and it is there or you might need to make up a subharness.

I'm going aftermarket because I do not want to deal with the hassel of making ^^ said subharness, I havent checked but I'm notorious for having **** luck so I'm assuming that the only thing behind my dash and kick pannels are gnomes that I have to feed everyonce in a while. plus I'd be bugging Bob and John with "whats this fer' ?" questions day and night. I havent figured out where I'm gonna buy the spal kit from yet but I'll do some research and get back to ya.

ya i really want it to be factory but im sure if i had to do a subharness, i would be lost, and i dont want to bug you either, but is there any way to tell if i do have it besides taking it apart? And if i dont need a subharness would it be pretty much bolt on, with the wiring pretty simple?

And KARPE...let me now where you can get that stuff when you find the place,
Thanks!
This prob sounds dumb, but what does spal stand for?

IF it has all of the wiring in the dash harness, it should be "plug and play". I don't want to minimize the work involved though - there is a lot of wire and parts to be routed and installed in doors and a module to install behind the PS airbag.

I have never tried to do this swap, so I'm not going to be any help with information about the dash harness in your XLT. I looked in a 2000 wiring manual and it was not clear if there are two different wiring harness styles for PEG and non-PEG trucks. I tried the online Ford parts places to see if they listed different harnesses but that didn't help either.
