Well after buying the '09 and noticing some of the decontenting they've done to it since my '04, I was thinking about some possible upgrades.

The first thing that stuck in my mind is that i hate the cheap looking pancake dome light that is in my new truck. I dont even have any maplights or even a proper looking lens on it. I know the Mustang one would look good, but i want to see what else is out there. While driving the work E350 Super Duty today i looked up and saw its dome light. I dont think its too bad looking to be honest, and it has map lights. Does anyone know if it will swap in? Will it look too big in the Ranger's little cab?

My only concern would be if it would fit or not. Its different but I don't think it would look bad in the ranger.

 

the fusions and new tauruses i believe have something similar. Will it fit, I don't know. Way to find out is to take it off and check if its the same pattern on the light as your stock one... hold on ill get a pic of the bottom of my stock one since its right next to me lol

Thanks for the pics! i have some research to do. The 2009 Ranger has a different dome light than that. It doesnt even turn on when i shut the car off, and theres not even a rocker switch on the assembly. Its pretty lame and very very basic. Damn decontenting! :D

ya i haven't seen any of the 09 lights so i wasnt sure but i assume its very similar when taken apart as are the mustang/expo lights..

I know you will have to run a power wire to get the map lights to work. But that looks like the other rectangular dome lights in the ranger. It will probably have the holes for the 3 screws.

 

mine turns on if my truck is off. it's the dial on the dash to make the instruments brighter or dim.

i'll agree that it's kinda basic and bland looking.

 

ive got a mustang dome as well as a expo dome for sale in the classifieds if your interested.
its pretty easy to splice in that third wire. i just taped into my cigarette lighter wire as its hot all the time to be able to turn the map lights off and on whenever

 

The thing I hate about the Ranger dome even the one with the maps is that you can't make it where it won't turn on the interior lights when you open the door. Stupid if you ask me. The Mustang nor the Explorer light won't do it either.
