Attaching Vinyl.
I bought my vinyl tonight for wrapping the sub box and the amp rack with. (I decided to rebuild the amp rack a tad bigger and a little more 'square' to match the box and hide the amps better.)
My question is: What is the best spray on glue I can use for attaching vinyl to MDF so that wont have it coming apart in 6 months to a year. I want this stuff to last. Especially when it gets real hot in the truck during the summer. Links or thorough descriptions of the product would be nice. it is best to use contact cement. you paint it on both the wood and the back side of the vinyl. Then put them together. Just make sure you figure out how the vinyl will lay before using any glue. contact cement is not forgiving it is just about permanant in 2 minutes. and is good and stuck in 30 seconds. Take you time and plan it all out before using any adhesive. It would suck to have to buy more.

i wrapped my mdf box in vinyl with contact cement i bought in home depot. i forget the name of it though. it was in a gallon bucket like you'd buy paint in. its easier if you have a spray gun, but, can be done without. i didn't have one, so i brushed a good coat on both the back of the vinyl and the mdf. you'll know you got a really thick coat on the back of the vinyl when it starts to look sort of greenish yellow. let it set for a few mins till it gets tacky, then set it. i wrapped mine towards the end of summer, and nothing has come undone at all.
EDIT: forgot to mention.. vinyl can show joints if they aren't completley smoothed and blended in. this goes for screw holes and stuff like that too. |

the spray stuff is a big mess, from my experence, to work with so if you can get some that you paint on it would be easier to clean up

I was lookign at using Elmer's Contact Cement. I dont think you can go wrong with Elmer's.
