bench to mustang buckets
 

OK, ya'll. I know this has been covered but...I'm an old guy so help me out!
I have a '94 XL std. cab with a bench seat.
I have the seats from a '93 mustang hatchback. see pics attached.
I also have a full length center console from a newer exploder that goes up to the dash and an overhead console from an exploder. That's the look I want.
My '94 XL has a bench seat...what can I expect or where can I look on the forum to see a similar install!

I've never swapped out seats before but plenty of guys on here have... Hopefully someone can chime in about swapping in mustang seats, I know it's been done

I'm not shure about the mustangs seats I've never looked into doing that. I've ben waiting on finding the rite explorer to find in a junk yard so I can gut its front seats and center console. I haven't found one yet. Mustang seats are more comfterble to me so this would be an interesting project. Hope it works out for you. Hope to see some pictures.

Within the next couple of weeks I will trying to install cloth buckets from a 96 mustang in a 99 std cab. I post what I find out. Hoping I can just switch the slide brackets fromn to new.

i did the expo seats and they are direct bolt in. Ive read a bunch of threads on it and from what i recall you will have to keep your stock slides to make them fit but you may have to drill the bottom seat frame to attach them which will require new bolts and nuts since the factory holes are threaded and your new ones won't be. Be sure to go grade 8 for safety though!

Update on 99 Ranger St. Cab, installing 96 mustang seats- Not finished, but not easy. To look at the Mustang seats it looked easy. 4 Bolts remove the tracks from seats. Ranger on the other hand, big rivets to drill out , some from top, seat back off, seat belt off. I decided to use the Ranger brackets on the Mustang track . Drilled out all the rivets and on the Mustang's some spot welds. I could not replace the rivets with bolts in all locations, because it would block the seat from moving. So I made a conversion plate out off 1/4 " X 3/4" steel and countersunk flat head screws where needed. This basically worked on passenger seat. It was about an 1" to 1.5" higher than stock 60/40 and had to have the headrest against the window, but it is comfortable. Remember '99 Std. Cab. 3" more space then earlier models. The Mustang drivers seat was power, with switch on front of seat. The tracks were different and I had to make bracket out of angle iron to swtich 90 degrees. That in combination with the power seat being higher, made it too high. At 6', I can hardly get under the steering whell. I didn't get power to it yet, maybe I gain enough when lowered electrically, but if not I'll have to pull off the old ranger tracsk, cut off the seat back bracket and seat belt brackets and try to use those. So it certainly hasn't been an easy bolt in. When complete I'll try to post pics.

Update 2
I switched back to the Ranger tracks on the Mustang seats. I had to cut off the seat belt bracket for the center section, an extra mounting point for the center section, 2 seat back mounting brackets and 2 brackets that were counter balances for the seat backs. The Mustand seats needed none of that, and they would have interfered with the mounting. I also had to make adapter backets. The left to right spacing was about 11-3/8" on the Ranger and close to 14" on the Mustang. The Front to back distance was also diiferent. The Mustang seats had three sets of rear holes. I used the ones furthest back about 14-3/4". I made the adapters out of 1/4 " steel and used flat head bolts (5/16" X 18 X 1") that had about 5/8" diameter head. I counter sank them flush so that would lay flat on the bottom of the seat. The other I used the bolts I took out of the Mustang seat to bring with. I did all my cutting with a 4-1/2" grinder. I hand held drilled everything. I drill press would be easier. The result was it was a little lower than it was with Mustang electric mount. Still higher than stock. My knee no longer hits the turn signal switch. I have less than a fist between my legs and the steering wheel. I'm 6' , with the head rest touching the back window and the back angle enough to give good lower back support, I still feel alittle closer than I would like to be. It is more comforatble than the no back support 60/40. I won't want 3" less though which the earlier Rangers are supposed to have. In an extended cab they would be great.

Final Update. As you can see above, I tried this every which way. The conclusion is the following is the best way. Take the track off the Mustang seat and throw way. Then take the Ranger tracks off the Ranger seats. Is necessary to remove the seat backs, seat belts and tip forward release lever. With the tracks off the seats, remove the Ranger mounting brackets off the top of the tracks. In order to remove you must drill out 4 rivets on each track. Then measure the bolt hole spacing on the Mustang seats. You'll left to right is only off about 1/8", but front to back in is an inch or so. I drilled off center on the tracks to pick up the 1/8", and just measured the front to back to match the Mustang seats. Then is just bolting the tracks to the seat bottom. I was able to reuse the ranger seat belts by using the Mustang seat pivot shoulder bolts, I had to open up the holes through the seat belts just a tad. SO now the height is good, probably and inch or so taller than stock, but no problem with the steering wheel. I wish I had another inch of seat travel. The head rest is against the rear window, but overall comfortable.

easiest way to do seats in 98+ reg cab is use 93-7 reg cab tracks. minor trimming of holes should be needed at that point. mustang seats will bolt up to 93-7 tracks.

to the op, you will need a set of 60/40 or bucket seat tracks for your year and cab. 94 standard cab tracks. once your bench is out, you should find a couple extra holes in the floor near the trans tunnel for the seat tracks. you can also bolt in the outside two and the inside two should line up with the holes. they may have plastic plugs in them. it's possible the holes have not been drilled, but there may be dimples in the floor.

again, the mustang seats will bolt to the 93-7 ranger tracks.

05 To 09 mustang seats will bolt up to 04 tracks?

Note quite the exact same but here's my 04 XLT with 2019 Mustang seats bolted in.
