Built a console lid

Well I have the 60/40 seats and like most others my center console lid was cracked down the middle and the latch was broken off, so I made my own for free.(I had most the parts needed, and the rest I got for free.) I was a little skeptical about doing it since this is my first ever upholstery job

I cut out the wood, took some parts off the old lid, and went to a local upholstery shop and got some free scraps of vinyl and foam.

Its isn't perfect but looks WAYYY better then the old one. The gap on the passenger side of the lid is smaller in real life and not noticeable.

cant see since i am at work but kudos for the effort alone.

i did something similar except i didnt upholster it, I cut the shape out of MDF and then sanded it and sprayed and cleared it and now i have a hard surface so i can use it to write on or whatever, i like it better than the "cushion" that used to be there.

That looks really strong, and a good job on the vinyl. This is one thing I was going to do until i did the 60/40 seat mod and got an explorer console. Everyone always puts their weight on their elbow when they get in and the covers on those armrests were not made for that.

Not bad man nice job. Perhaps a bit much on the staples but it looks real good. Now I also know I'm not the only one w/a purple mag lite.

I did go a little overboard with the staples but I wanted it to hold strong and not come off. Yes I do have a purple mag lite.lol That isnt my main light tho, I have a red one the same size mounted in the back of the cab with the led upgrade in it.

robj: It is really strong. My little brother who is 9 sat on it and it help fine.
