CARGO LIGHT DOME LIGHT INTERCONNECT

Hey guys. Larry here with yet another cargo light ?
I am replacing my third brake light with a solid red doing away with the worthless cargo lights. I want to use the cargo light switch for another purpose but it turns on my dome Light.
do any of you guys know how that interconnect is wired is the dome light fed from the third brake / cargo light or direct from the switch up to the dome light. I want to do away with that interconnect so the dome light won’t come on when I flip the switch. Need to know which wire to cut and what color it is and where it is..

What YEAR Ranger?

1995 and up is usually a Black/pink stripe wire from the interior light relay
This black/pink wire is spliced to another black/pink wire, at the relay, that comes from the dimmer module which activates Dome light and cargo light
YEAR specific on where the relay might be

So if you can find the black/pink wire coming down from the cab stop/cargo light, and you can cut it there and add a FUSED power switch, key on power or full time, up to you

Tape up the other end of cut black/pink wire because it will have power when dome light is activated

The stop light power should be a dark green wire

MIS STATED DOME LIGHT INTENTIONS

I must not have made myself clear. what I want to do is use the dimmer switch click that turns on the cargo lights for another purpose. I will do away with the cargo lights install an all red third brake light and still work the dome light as it does now. I was hoping to pick up the circuit that turned on the cargo lights near the spot where the cargo light mounts and use that circuit for another purpose. So if I understand what you are saying I’ve got to find that relay and clip the wire that goes to the dome light there. If I do that will the circuit that I just cut still activate the cargo lights were i to put it on another switch in other words if I’m going to mount something on the back of the cab can I just somehow disable the dome light from coming on and use the dimmer switch to turn on my auxiliary device which was previously the cargo light.

Still need the YEAR

You can pull out the interior light relay, that would disable dome light, but for door open as well

But yes you could find the relay and the two black/pink wires, cut them at the relay and splice them together, now dimmer wheel all the way up would only power on the cargo circuit, not the dome light

But relay/dome light would still work with door open

The dimmer has a separate wire for the top click, it runs to the relay, on that same post on the relay is the Cargo light wire, both wires are black/pink
The 12v from dimmer passes thru the relay to turn on the dome light, relay is off when that happens, the relay is activated by GEM to turn on the dome light when door opens, so not part of the cargo light circuit, but used the same black/blue stripe wire from relay to dome light bulb
