Will an 04+ steering wheel fit on an 03 column?

I'm interested in swapping my 03 stock steering wheel with cruise buttons, to a 2004+ stock steering wheel with cruise buttons? Is the wiring and splines the same between wheels and columns? Thanks

Yes it is. There's one plug that needs to be modified on the steering wheel, though. There's a tab or something that needs to be shaved off. Once it's off it plugs right in and you're good to go.

Awesome! I'll be headed to the JY Friday afternoon then! Several nice 04+ leather wheels for $10 each, plus $40 for matching airbag!

Yea, $40 for the airbag that is currently under recall because the humidity in the southern state you live in messes with the chemical used to inflate the airbag, causing the inflator to explode, which in turn ruptures the airbag and sends shrapnel towards you in a crash.

I'd probably re-think that idea.

You can replace the part of the airbag that's malfunctioning, yourself. Ford wants 80 bucks for this part, though.

Oh well, I pulled it from the JY today. The Explorer I removed it from arrived at the JY just a month or so ago, everything was still intact, so I'm guessing it was an engine/trans failure. I might return it. Not sure how my state has to do with anything.... Alabama's not the only state with awfully high humidity.... I just like the different style of the wheel. I also like the 07+ F150 steering wheel. Any idea if it fits on the Ranger?

I don't know if it will or not. I'm fairly sure they used to interchange at one point or another.

Here. https://owner.ford.com/tools/account...r-recalls.html

If your wheel was pulled from an 07 you're fine. If it's 04 to 06 then I'd see about getting a different airbag.

Hmmm, the Exploder I pulled the leather steering wheel from was an 03, (at least they have it marked as an 03), but it had the 04+ Ranger wheel style on it. I'm pretty sure I got the airbag and a vinyl wheel out of an 06 Expedition. There's an 07 Ranger there too, with an intact airbag, that I could go swap out? They're open everyday, so I can go swap them out, if need be?

Is there any way to tell if it's a non-faulty airbag? Like does it have a certain number on the back of it? Just curious?

Thanks

EDIT: The Explorer and Expedition aren't on that recall list you linked me? I know Rangers and Explorers are practically the same vehicles, but it only says 04-06 Rangers? It doesn't mention Explorers at all. I'm thinking I'll go swap the airbag for the one in the 07. It's not as clean looking, but maybe it'll be the updated one?

I'm no expert, but I'd suggest digging deeper than what I did before making any further choices, and potentially wasting more money.

It's not just your state that is having the issue. Every state with high humidity is having the issue.

The 02+ Explorers have a completely different airbag and steering wheel than Rangers. Same goes for the Expedition. So whatever you got may not even fit your Ranger. Research should probably be your next step right now, because I don't think you even know what you're looking for.

If you got the newer style Expo wheel and airbag, try it out, I was curious of the swap.

04 to 06 Ranger airbags have a recall currently and the fix is only temporary (same inflator but newer)

The 07+ wheels will not work as the airbags are dual stage and your trick is a single stage setup. They can be modded to fit a 04 to 06 airbag but you run into the same problem as earlier.

I can not find any info about the 150s or Expedition wheels, so if you try it keep us updated.

Do not hold me responsible for if it does not work, but I would think if any other vehicle wheel and airbag wpuld wprk it wpuld be the 02 tp 04? Ranger expos but I can't find any documented attempts at this.
