center console busted...
 

so the latch to hold my down the lid on the center console broke the other day.

i have a 96 with stock interior...so i was wondering if i go to a junk yard do i have to get a whole new lid or center console?

If its the part that is on the lid then you have to get a whole now lid.


Good luck finding one though, its a common problem so they are hard to find. I just made my own latch and lid.

I put a screw into the bottom where it latches and attached some magnets to the top. It closed and the magnets held it shut, then I could lift it to open it.

do the 60\40 mod and put in a shorty console are a full lenth explorer console they hold up a lot better

well i had the same problem some time ago. i fixed mine with a redneck solution.. a zip tie lol

the part that clips in had broken off the plastic plate so i pulled the top back and put a ziptie around the top of that clip and stuffed it back in from the top and now the ziptie holds it in place and it sits flusher against the console because its recessed into the lid by the width of a ziptie
