Howdy! I have a 1999 Ranger, and the power feed to the cigar lighter (left side of the radio bezel) is only about 4.4 volts with the key set to on, and about 5.7 volts with the truck running. The power port is getting the full 12 volts. I tried cleaning the socket on the positive lead and it didn’t make any difference. Any reason why the cigar lighter voltage would be low? I was thinking of just connecting it to the power port but I don’t want to overload that circuit. Thanks in advance!

 

Check the connections on the back side.

 

Thanks! I had pulled the bezel and checked the voltage at the wires directly. Are you thinking I need to trace the wires back to the next connection and test there? Thanks!

 

Try checking voltage under load. If you have low voltage behind the dash and then with a load drops it to zero, you've got a bad connection somewhere. You just need to follow the circuit upstream.
