How to- body-match colored airbag emblem
Start by removing the airbag. Do this with the key off. You will have to drill out the small rivets on the airbag that hold the cover to the body of it. After this is done, push the body of it inward, and release the little tabs that are stuck inside of the cover. When this is done, the airbag logo will come out. It is only held on with a little "horse shoe" style fastener (for the Mazda atleast)
I dipped my Mazda logo in 3 parts hydrogen peroxide, and 1 part muriatic acid. This will remove the chrome chemically. Need I say this stuff is dangerous, so be careful.
After you are done, prep your part and spray it. I used bulldog adhesion promoter, after scuffing with a toothbrush and AJAX to etch the surface. I then used chromabase color, and USC high gloss activated clear.
reinstall the logo in the airbag, and secure it with the horse-shoe.
re-assemble the bag into the cover. You will need to re-rivet it on. Seat all of the metal tabs into the cover carefully.
you will then re-install the airbag into the steering wheel. Do this with the key off. Don't forget to reconnect the connector. If you forget, the RCM will illuminate the airbag light.
